Experience

I specialize in Math Tutoring for 6th grade-12th grade students, and college math entry prep through MATH 1050. I have over 5 years of private tutoring experience and have worked in small group sessions with over 300 middle school and high school students. I also specialize in organization, and confidence building through mathematics and have a "point of view" student's tend to accept and respect. **References available** One parent said, "before I hired you (Alisha) she ( her daughter ) had told me she didn't care if she graduated or not, after 8 weeks with you (Alisha), not only she is she on track to graduate with her class, she has a new confidence from doing so well on her math exams and working all those hours became valuable to her no longer annoying and boring. She is now talking about college and wants to go the University of Utah. Before she said she was just going to get a job, and sell her artwork on the streets she did not want to go to college. You suggested doing her generals so she could experience college life, and take art classes at the University and see what naturally comes from it." - I will forever treasure this text message from her mother. I worked for AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) for 2 years before coming back to finish my Bachelors degree. AVID is local school district program/class for student's who just need a little extra help, some confidence, organization skills, and someone to look up to, I acted as the "big sister" that they didn't want to disappoint. I am convinced every student can excel, each student learns differently and that is one thing that makes math "hard" for 98% of the students I've work with say. Math build's or diminishes confidence and I am determined in my future of math education to instill that confidence in young student's, so nothing stands in their way of reaching their ultimate potential. My passion is in Math Education Reform and the focus of my future career.

Hobbies

I am a young mother of 3 young boys, we love to go adventures and do daring things like going on roller coasters and water slides, we love to be outside and ride our bikes and have full on neighborhood water balloon fights. We listen to a lot of music and am so excited to take my soon to be 12 year old son to his first concert this Summer for his birthday!! I'm 33 and have a young heart, most of my tutoring clients would describe me as funny, easy to get along with, easy to understand, easy to talk to, not intimidating, patient and going to make a great teacher one day soon. I am taking a break this semester going part time as I have a 5 month old baby and I went full time last semester - in order to keep my scholarship - he was only 3 weeks old. I pulled it off but I have a 1st grader and a 6th grader also, so I am going to be a full time mom and a part time tutor this semester! I will be taking on 20 hours worth of clients!! Please send me a message with any questions.
